Mindfulness & The Mountains

Ski trip is the closest emotionally to the trip back to careless childhood, when we could spend the whole day in the snow and show up just for dinner – soaking wet, with sleds or skis, mittens or scarf lost & fond… although we were so happy, with the eyes sparkling and the cheeks blushing & shining like McIntosh Red apples. And after the dinner (that tasted the most delicious) always followed equally delicious deep sleep until alarm for the next snow play day.

This is how we felt during Jasper trip. Riding to the Marmot mountain in the yellow school bus, via narrow snowy roads among the tall trees and big mountains, that made us feel very small, playing in the fresh fluffy snow – it was a true joy. We were blessed with mild temperature for Alberta, with sunshine, stunning views of the mountains, people around us, with our friendship, with being in the club, living in Canada.

While we had 6 days lift tickets to ski, we also gave ourselves licence to chill, to take mindfulness walks in the mountains, on the trails, to connect with nature, with wilderness of the National Park. At some point we’ve counted over 30 elks, patiently waiting for the CN trail to pass. Mindfulness walks on the last and first days of the year and the decade were spiritual experience – to take our time reconnect with ourselves. We are adventures ready, bring them on – 2020!

A note from a long term member

Hello There Just a thank you note for all the fun I had as a member of HPSC. I’m pretty old and my bones are quite full of holes so I’m giving up my membership with some sadness but deep gratitude for the great lessons, kind people and joy that I had skiing with you. I hope to hold onto the pleasure of being out in the snow in a quieter way and will not miss getting up at 5:30 to catch the bus. Ski safe everyone, keep laughing and have fun!

Member Appreciation / Double Double Day Trip Now Open for Registration

One of the highlights of the HPSC season is the annual Member Appreciation Day trip to Mount St. Louis Moonstone on Saturday January 11th.  This is also our annual Double Double trip with lessons in both the morning and afternoon.  This is a fantastic way to get motivated for the rest of the ski season.

At the end of the day we will be staying a little later than normal allowing for more Après time to mix and mingle.  This is a fantastic way for new members to get to know their fellow HPSC members.  In addition, there will be free pizza during the après.  The bus will depart at 6:15pm.

This is a Members ONLY event.

Happy Hours

Happy Hours events were held to warm up for the season, to practice Apres Ski in the city, to welcome new members, to give the opportunity to the potential members to meet up and ask questions about the club. These events are always warm gatherings of friends sharing the memories or dreams about the snow adventures.

SkiFit is back!

The temperatures are falling and the leaves are turning…this means it’s time for SkiFit, HPSC’s popular pre-ski season fitness program.

Every Saturday, join ski instructors John McHutchion and Karen Evans and their amazing crew of volunteers in High Park for a variety of fitness activities. There’s a level for everyone – for those who want a tough workout to those who just want to get out and move around.

The best part is the post workout brunch at the Grenadier Café!

Having fun & getting fit.

If you’re new the club, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people before the snow flies. Returning members can reconnect with old friends.

SkiFit will end with our participation in the popular annual event, Climb the Mountain, the first weekend in November in Blue Mountain.

Below are the dates. All sessions begin at 9am in High Park, meeting at The Grenadier Café parking lot.

September 7, 14, 21, 28

October 5, 19, 26 (note there is no SkiFit on Thanksgiving weekend)

Nov. 2: Climb the Mountain
